Spring House Middle School, Parkland School District


PURPOSE

The Pennsylvania Middle School Computer Fair is a student event that highlights computer technology integration within the middle school classroom and recognizes student achievement. Students are able to unleash their creativity, convey information more dynamically, apply state standards, and collaborate to create innovative projects. This event is sponsored by the Pennsylvania Department of Education's Office of Information and Educational Technology.

REGIONAL SELECTIONS
The goal of the regional selection process is to select the top six projects in the county to be entered in the state competition.

Time: 7:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. (lunch will be served for all students and sponsors)
Location: Chester County Intermediate Unit, ESC 455 Boot Road, Downingtown PA 19335

Schedule:
7:30 - 8:15 a.m. Computer and project set-up
8:15 - 8:30 a.m. - Welcome
8:30 - 11:00 a.m.- Student workshop and activities
11:00 - 11:30 - Project peer review
11:30 - 12:00 p.m. - Awards ceremony
12:30 - Lunch and dismissal

ONLINE REGISTRATION

All projects will register online via the PA Middle School State Website.

JUDGING CRITERIA

Projects will be scored according to the scoring guideline rubrics for each category.   A two-tier judging process will be used to select the state entries.  The first place winner in each category will advance to the state competition.

SPECIFIC REGIONAL RULES

PROJECT NARRATIVE

A project narrative must be submitted with each entry into the 2008 Computer Fair. The narrative will give students an opportunity to provide judges with any background information they wish the judges to be aware of during the judging process. The narrative will be placed with each project for the judges to read as they evaluate the student's entry. This summary should not be more than one page.
